Mount Douglas Secondary School Window Replacement
The Mount Doug Window Replacement Project involved removing original single glazed windows from the 1960’s east and south wings and replacing with new high-performance double-glazed units.
The new windows block approximately 60 percent solar energy while allowing 70 percent of visible light to pass through thus achieving year-round comfort with heating and cooling cost savings. Solid spandrel panels were also designed into the top 1/3rd of the windows in order to balance the daylight and reduce the cost of the glass while further reducing heat gain. These elements also introduce a new cost-effective colour palette to the existing school materials to provide aesthetic interest.
The work was executed in phases with Phase 1 East wing level 1, completed September 2018 with a construction value of $350,000. Phase 2 South wing was completed in November 2019 with a construction value of $300,000. Phase 3 East wing, level 2 was completed in September 2020 with a construction value of $350,000. Phase 4 was completed in September 2021.
