PARKLAND SECONDARY SCHOOL

School District No. 63 (Saanich) engaged Bradley Shuya Architect to prepare PIR & PDR documents for Ministry of Education approvals for a seismic upgrade at Parkland Secondary School. With a total building area of approximately 9000 m2 (97,500ft2), Parkland is the largest Secondary School in School District #63 (Saanich) to receive a complete seismic upgrade.

The project began construction in the fall of 2015 and is broken into four phases of construction with one concurrent phase for Envelope Upgrade. The total construction period lasted approximately 18 months and the project was completed in August 2016.

The project also included a Non Structural Upgrade to adapt Parkland Secondary School both functionally and physically to conform to the current B.C. Building Code (2012) This included upgrades to the mechanical and electrical systems.

As the school was occupied during the upgrade, Bradley Shuya Architect utilized solutions to mitigate the seismic risks and to implement this work with the least disruption as possible to the daily operations of the school.
