Hornby Island Community School

The Hornby Island Community School was partially destroyed by a fire in August 2018.

Bradley Shuya Architect Inc. led the design team to develop a Project Definition Report (PDR) to study three design options for either partial or full replacement of the Hornby Island School in 2019.

Construction began in 2020 and was completed in 2022 ahead of schedule and within budget. The new replacement school design includes a Community Gymnasium, along with Administration Offices, Classrooms, and various support spaces.

Timber framing elements were utilized throughout this school, including glulam beams, timber columns, and solid wood decking. The size of the new school is 1050 sq. meters.
