Camosun College Gathering Place

The Camosun College Gathering Place Arbor is a symbolic architectural expression based on the traditional First Nations design and their indigenous architectural forms such as the Long House. The roof form of the Arbor was derived from the traditional Coast Salish woven cedar hat. Heavy timber round beams and columns were used for the Gathering Place Arbor to respect the traditional building materials used by the First Nations People. The round building form was adopted as a universally accepted architectural form and to respect the First Nations culture. A ceremonial fire pit is located in the center of the space and built in seating around the perimeter to accommodate over 150 people.
